Uncertainty but one thing I know for sure. By Alyson Premo.

There is so much uncertainty in the world right now, but I know without a doubt drinking would make it so much worse.

Let me preface this by saying I don't watch the news. Lots of fear-mongering, anxiety-inducing, and distraction from the present. And this is something I've learned to distance myself from because it doesn't bring me any peace or even any answers.

It makes me ruminate. Get into a state of panic. And quite frankly, I don't want to live my life like that. Alcohol made me do the exact same thing, and I'll be damned if I got sober to do the same shit.

No matter what is going on in the world, that's not a good enough reason to drink.

I hear it all the time. 👇🏻

I'm stressed, so I need wine to make me feel better. (Um, does wine solve the problem? Does wine give you the rest you really need? Does waking up the next day feeling like garbage make you feel better? No. It's just a vicious cycle of feel like crap. Drink. Feel like crap again. Drink. And you get the point.)

I don't know what school is going to be like in the Fall for my kids. (Um, how does this even equate to wanting a drink? The uncertainty? I get it. You don't have control over most things in life, and this is just throwing you for a loop, so you throw your hands in the air and drink to numb out?)

What it all comes down to is we can come up with all the justifications to drink even when we're minorly inconvenienced, never mind in the middle of all this chaos.

But I know without a doubt, drinking will not make ANYTHING better.

Your kids need you during this time, and if your kids are grown and out of the house, I don't care. Our kids still need us to be a positive influence in their lives, no matter the age.
