I don't choose mom friends based on if they day drink or not.
I choose them based on if they love and support me just the way I am with or without alcohol.
I joined TikTok the other day because my son decided to download it, so I wanted to keep an eye on him. I was scrolling through the "for you" content and then became angry, sad, and just plain fired up with the number of videos about moms drinking because of their kids.
Thrown in there, I saw some hot bearded, tattooed guys too, so it wasn't all bad. 😂 If you know me personally, you know my weakness is a construction guy with a beard and tattoos.
Anyway, I digress. On Instagram, I've surrounded myself with all positive and beautiful souls who either don't drink that often or are sober completely that I was in my own bubble thinking that this sober curious movement is working. Then I saw these TikTok videos about drinking because of your kids, coping with alcohol, and choosing mom friends based on whether they day drink or not.
This made me so upset on many levels, but the number one reason why it did was because this is what my 1:1 clients and challenge participants fear the most. They will lose all their friends. They won't be able to make any new ones and feel that people will look at them differently.
I want you all to know you are not alone, and if you're seeing social media posts like that or have friends in real life who say that, then f*ck em and find some new friends. Use this page to connect with others in your area or search in your area for sober/sober curious meetups.
There are tons of moms who will support you in choosing not to drink a substance that adds no value to your life and does nothing but cause you anxiety, sadness, and guilt.
It also reminded me that progress is being made with the sober curious movement, but a lot of work still needs to be done. But I'm SO damn thankful that I decided to take a leap of faith and start this page because I want you to know you ARE NOT ALONE. You never are. ❤️
