Your freedom lies in your ability not to give a sh*t about what others think of you not drinking. By Alyson Premo.

Your freedom lies in your ability not to give a sh*t about what others think of you not drinking.

It's 4th of July weekend, and you know what that means. A lot of drunk people thinking that it's cool, sexy, and fun to wake up with a raging hangover, then continue to drink throughout the day tomorrow for the festivities, and then wake up on Monday wondering where their weekend went and why they have hangxiety and feel like absolute garbage.

Let me just tell you right now. I DO NOT miss those days. I may have thought they were fun in the moment, but my definition of fun was wack.

❌ Is it fun to blackout? Um no. No matter what your friends, memes, or anyone else says, blackouts are a HUGE sign that there is something wrong with your drinking. Not to mention how much damage you're doing to your brain.

❌ Is it fun to drive drunk? No, and this is something I'm forever grateful I never hurt anyone else in the process of me not recognizing the impact of my drinking. If you drink this weekend, please use an Uber, have a designated driver, or spend the night wherever you are.

❌ Is it fun to be the brunt of the jokes at the party for your behavior? Nope. While some may think it's funny if you're drinking in your 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's like you did in your early 20's I've got a little PSA for you - it is not cute anymore.

❌ Is it fun to be hungover to the point where it takes you a whole week to recover from a weekend of drinking? No. Think about how much TIME you are missing out on when you do this. If it's taking a week for you to recover, your body is telling you to stop punishing it. You only have one body and mind; start treating it with respect.

You can have all the fun in the world celebrating alcohol-free without all of what I listed above. Think about how proud of yourself you'll be when Monday rolls around, and you actually had FUN without drinking.

Don't let anyone who has their own insecurities about drinking tell you otherwise.
