No matter where you are on your journey - we all started the same by picking up that one drink.

No matter where you are on your journey - we all started the same by picking up that one drink.

You know how some of us judge others for how they let themselves get so out of control with their drinking? Well, at least I did back when I was drinking. Watching episodes of Intervention saying, "I'll never get that bad." or "Why can't they just stop?"

Jokes on me. Even though I was high functioning until the last couple of months before I went to detox, I was that bad. And the progression didn't happen overnight. It never does. Alcohol keeps reeling you in because that's what a chemically addictive DRUG does.

All of this to say, we all start with that first drink. I don't care if you're a binge drinker, a grey area drinker, or have alcohol use disorder; we all started the same way.

And it really makes me upset now when I hear others say I'm not that bad. I wasn't "that bad" either until I was drinking from the minute I woke up to the minute I passed out.

What are you waiting for anyway? To lose your job? To lose your kids? Are you waiting to use all your funds on alcohol so that you don't have any money left for food or to pay your bills? Will that be when you justify that you're "that bad"?

You don't need to get to that place, though. There is no prerequisite that you have to hit "rock bottom" to change your relationship with alcohol.

If you're reading this right now saying, "I'm not that bad," then this is your sign to do something about it before it gets you to the place of potentially ruining your life or the relationships you have with the people you love. Because if you keep drinking, you will not get better. You will get worse. And this is a FACT.
