Who is no longer fooled by the marketing tactics of Big Alcohol? By Alyson Premo.

"Every bottle of our limited-edition Pink Glitter Chardonnay helps fund clinical trials for breast cancer."

Biggest eye-roll ever when I saw this ad in my feed. This seems counterintuitive to me. Why? Because alcohol INCREASES your risk of breast cancer. You want us to buy alcohol to fund breast cancer research? Hmmm. My logical thinking brain says this doesn't make any sense.

How about we don't drink alcohol, and our chances of getting breast cancer decrease? Now that's a cause I can get behind. Why can't we be promoting Sober October and Breast Cancer Awareness TOGETHER in the same month? Like go sober for 31 days during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and donate the money you would've spent on booze to help fund clinical trials. Seems more productive to me.

This is straight from WebMD. "Alcohol can increase levels of estrogen and other hormones associated with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. Alcohol also may increase breast cancer risk by damaging DNA in cells. In general, studies have found that the more you drink regularly over time, the higher your chances of having breast cancer. If you’re a woman and you have three drinks per week, your odds are 15% higher than a woman who doesn’t drink at all. And this risk goes up an estimated 10% for each extra drink per week."

3 drinks per week? That's it. To increase your chances of getting breast cancer and 10% per drink after that. I can't even count how much alcohol I drank before I got sober, but it was way more than 3 drinks per week, and if you're on this page, I bet most of you were way over that as well.

I don't post this information ever to scare anyone I post to educate. No matter how glitzy and glamourous a pink bottle of champagne looks, it is not helping your overall health, and it's increasing your chance of not only getting breast cancer, but throat, mouth, bowel, and liver cancer. No thanks, I'll pass on the added risk.
