Happy Mother's Day 2021! By Alyson Premo.

Happy Mother's Day to...

πŸ’— All the mothers who are getting up every single day, no matter how hard it is.

πŸ’— All the mothers who are questioning their relationship with alcohol because they know that they and their kids deserve better.

πŸ’— All the mothers who are remaining sober day in and day

πŸ’— All the mothers who have slipped but still choose to keep trying.

I see you not only today but EVERY DAY.

I know that sobriety and motherhood are a whole other level, and those who aren't parents don't understand. They have hours upon hours to do whatever they want with no responsibility to anyone else but themselves.

While they may have all the time in the world to focus on their sobriety, they also don't have the gift of a child. A child brings a love that you can't even describe. An unconditional love. A reason for getting and staying sober. A reason for being the best person you can be.

We can CHOOSE to do the hard work of our own healing. When we do this, we not only break the pattern for our kids, but generations to come, and that mamas is POWERFUL.

YOU ARE POWERFUL.

Mother's Day can be a triggering holiday on many levels. For some of us who struggle with alcohol, our mother could have been one of the reasons why we turned to alcohol to cope.

As time has passed on my sober journey, I've chosen to forgive my mother for doing the best she could at the time. That doesn't mean our relationship is easy or perfect, but it means I've put boundaries in place to protect my peace, creating a better connection between us.

That was my choice to forgive, and I know that there may be some of you who aren't ready to forgive, and that's ok too. We're all at different healing phases of our journey, and the most important piece is to prioritize yourself, your own needs, and what feels the best for YOU.

I am honoring all of you mothers today, and I hope you are celebrating YOURSELF!

Now I want to know what does being a sober mom mean to you?
